The Best Robot Hoover
The most effective robot hoover will clean and mop without requiring your attention, and will leave your floors clean. Its surprisingly affordable price and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are great features.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have test. They are equipped with motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model), they use intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans that avoid obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. They also come with carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it clean quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.
It's still a great deal particularly if your office or home has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also quiet and operates while you are at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, however it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and offer better cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to remove and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is great for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire house, finishing with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a decent cleaning job on a variety of rooms and floors with various flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competitors. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an easy mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and look better. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and a little more cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time however this was not completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.
The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to the amount of dirt they are.
For bigger homes it's recommended to choose a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home by using the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you own a number of furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that is washable.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to set up a spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with a powerful 8000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it's more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we have tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
